Lt. Colonel Henderson served twenty years in the US Air Force (1960-1980), with assignments in Ohio, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Alabama, and various locations overseas. Command assignments included two tours as a security police squadron commander; two tours as a commandant of students for AFROTC; operational crew duty assignments included one tour as a Strategic Missile Launch Crew Commander. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Viet Nam.
Dr. Henderson’s civilian career was in higher education (1980 – 2002), and included assignments as Co-Principal Investigator, Alabama Teacher Career Incentive Program Study, Auburn University; Assistant to the President, Auburn University; Dean of Students and Assistant Professor of Education, University of Maine at Presque Isle; Assistant Vice President for Advancement, Faulkner University; Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Chair, Department of Business Administration, Faulkner University.
Pete spends most of his retired life serving as an Elder for the Auburn Church of Christ, writing curriculum materials, teaching classes, and leading the small group ministry. He and his wife, Jane, have two adult daughters and five grandchildren. When they are not visiting their grandchildren in Tennessee or Florida they spend what’s left of their time at their cottage on Lake Martin, sailing, power boating, swimming and hiking.
