A native of Kansas, John was raised in a rural farming community. He graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. He was involved in numerous campus activities, the AKL Fraternity and Campus Politics.

After three years in education, he returned to the University where he was responsible for Admissions Recruitment and involved in Alumni Relations. During this time he served as AKL advisor. His career then entered the business world as he joined S.R.A., an educational publishing company and subsidiary of IBM. After 15 years of sales, marketing and management responsibilities, throughout the nation, he then moved to the San Francisco Bay area to join a new start up computer operation. This company computerized the court reporting machine and in doing so, the industry. Again, he was heavily involved in sales and marketing management nationally.

After 15 years on the west coast, John and his wife, Connie moved to the Auburn community to be near their daughter and family. In the past 10 years, John has worked part time as a contract employee for the J.F. Smith Group as well as two publishing companies, including S.R.A.

Daily involvement includes Auburn United Methodist Church, following grandkids activities, some travel and too much golf.
