Dr. Ringer began her career teaching elementary education in Atlanta City Schools and in Mannheim Germany. After taking some years out for the early years of three sons and receiving a Master's, she began working with parents and infants in a preschool special education setting in DeKalb County, Georgia. During those years, she was a founding member of the state's Council for Exceptional Children, Early Childhood Division and served as state President. Taking a leave to begin research, led to a Ph.D. and 3 years of adjunct professor positions at Emory University, Oglethorpe University and Agnes Scott College. She accepted a position as Family Support Coordinator with the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, and then became their Policy Director for some years before becoming Executive Director of the Georgia Advocacy Office (the state Protection and Advocacy System for people with mental illness and disabilities). She left that position in 2003 to move to Auburn with her husband, Ken Ringer, a retiree from 3M Company.
Dr. Ringer has served as Chair of the Auburn College of Education National Advisory Council, and is currently Chair of their Development Committee. She was named the College's Outstanding Alumnae in 2003. She was a member of the Auburn National Alumni Association Board from 1989-1991 and is currently a member of the Auburn Magazine Advisory Board. She is an active member of the Auburn United Methodist Church where she volunteers for the Food Pantry and the Mercy Committee.
