South Dakota State University
South Dakota State University President David L. Chicoine initiated a campus-wide strategic planning process. That's how it all began. Based on the priorities articulated in the strategic plan and the definitive opportunities identified in the feasibility study conducted by the J.F. Smith Group in 2007, it was clear to SDSU leadership that the university should begin the planning phase of a comprehensive campaign.
The It Starts with State comprehensive campaign launched in 2007 and runs through 2012.
All colleges and departments on the SDSU campus will directly benefit from the campaign. Through the generosity of its donors SDSU will: enhance scholarship opportunities for students; establish fellowships and endowed chairs for faculty members; renovate existing buildings and construct new facilities; create funds for excellence that will expand research activity; and facilitate engagement in the arts and international educational experiences.
Despite the extreme downturn in several sectors of the national economy, the SDSU Foundation experienced a record year in 2008. In the last eight months, the foundation has received numerous leadership gift commitments. Our staff has been committed to reaching out both personally and electronically to communicate with prospects and donors. They have listened compassionately and continued to partner with SDSU friends and alums during these uncertain times. "We understand that there are more challenging
days ahead, but we will continue to set our sights high to help fulfill the bold vision of our university," says Keith Mahlum, vice president of development for the SDSU Foundation. "We appreciate the tremendous support of our Jackrabbit donors and look forward to creating educational opportunities for our students in 2009."
