Biography:

Mark Martin is a dynamic leader with 28 years of executive and middle management experience in diverse organizations. He has an extensive background in leadership, fund-raising and education.

Martin joined the Smith Group in 2003. He was recently promoted to the position of vice president of project management and training. Martin also serves in the capacity of feasibility study and campaign specialist for the J.F. Smith Group. He is currently working as project manager on his sixth capital campaign with JFSG. Among his responsibilities as project manager, Martin works with the organization’s leadership to implement campaign strategy; guide the enlistment and training of campaign leadership and volunteers; and assist with preliminary visits and solicitations. As a feasibility study specialist, Martin has conducted more than 500 feasibility study interviews and worked with 10 different clients. He also assists in communicating the J. F. Smith Group vision as a marketing representative for the company

 

Martin has over 11 years experience in higher education as a professor, department chair and university vice president. He served as vice president of advancement and development for the University of Texas at Arlington for over three years. At UTA he established a highly cohesive and productive development team with a budget of $1 million supporting 10 college deans. During his tenure as vice president, Martin increased the endowment growth at a rate of 20% annually. For two consecutive physical years Martin led the largest cast gift years in university history including the largest single cash gift. He established and expanded the university development board, major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving programs, website integration, and fund-raising automation to include prospect research and management systems.

 

Martin retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of distinguished active duty service including commanding in a wide variety of units around the world.
