Four!
By Jerry F. Smith
Last week I was driving to the Charlotte airport to catch a flight back to Birmingham and my cell phone rang. The voice on the other end said, “Jerry, this is Larry Stutts.”
Larry is a graduate of the Auburn’s School of Veterinary Medicine. But after practicing for several years, he decided to go to medical school and is now an OB-GYN in Florence, Alabama. Larry said, “I’m no longer on the board at Covenant Christian School, but Jackie (his wife) is still on the board and they want to do another campaign. She was wondering if you would call her and talk about how they can do a campaign at a minimum cost.” I said, “Sure!”
What is significant about this call is that this will be our fourth campaign for Covenant. So many fund-raising consultants are with a client only once. Covenant was one of our first Christian school campaigns we conducted some 14 years ago. I made a promise to myself back then that we were going to get repeat business, because we are going to do more than is expected of us and we’re going to become part of the organization’s “family”.
When we help others, we help ourselves. John Maxwell calls this the “Boomerang Principle.” Ken Blanchard said it best, “create raving fans; satisfied customers are not good enough!”
I have been so blessed over the years to have so many of you working with JFSG who buy in to doing more than our contract calls for….and that is why we continue to get called back.
Thank you for your commitment!
