Capital Campaign Follow-Up Calls

By Tom Mueller, Executive Vice President, Southwest Christian School, Ft. Worth, Texas

Success has been defined as having a goal and having a plan to make it happen.  Goal + Plan = Success.  Having a plan for achieving your goals in a capital campaign, or any goal in life worth achieving, is critical to having success. Knowing where you want to go and having a plan to "make it happen" is very important.

We felt at Southwest Christian School the "follow up calls" on appointments, solicitations for a gift, and calls to undecided about an appointment or gift to our campaign were key to us having a successful campaign. Being persistent and setting goals in our daily and weekly calls to donors were very important to us. Our donors really appreciated our discipline to follow up with them.

Goals help motivate you to achieve. They hold you accountable so you can have success.  Having a plan to reach your goals is critical.   Every day we try to do something that will move us along toward success in reaching our goal.  In summary: 1-Set goals, 2-Have a plan, 3-Visualize the results, and 4-Be persistent to "make it happen."
